How Our Purpose, Niche, and Story Are Designed to Help You Succeed
By Jason Moore
We recently held our annual Town Hall, which is a time set aside for reflection and preparation for the new year. Following the pattern of most everything else in 2020, this year’s Town Hall looked different from the past. It was virtual and shorter in length in an effort to be mindful of the taxing nature of multi-hour video meetings.
One consistency from the past was that much of the time was spent reflecting on our purpose, niche, and the ongoing evolution of our company story. This trifecta encompasses what makes our company unique, our “special sauce,” if you will.

The COVID-19 virus has turned all of our lives upside-down, but in your role as healthcare providers, you're experiencing stresses and concerns that you've never faced before. Our team stands in awe of the courageous work you’re doing. You’re the unsung heroes, sacrificing so much to care for your community. For that, we applaud you!

Leaning into Our Core Values as We Grow
By Jason Moore
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Bob Dylan wrote these lyrics in 1963 (released in 1964) concerning much bigger issues of the world, but they certainly feel applicable for this time of growth at Stratasan. With growth comes change. With change comes challenges. And our challenges are not unique to us. Our goal, though, is to be unique in how we solve them. As we face these challenges on a regular basis, we lean on our core values as a foundation of our approach.

Yesterday was tough. The funeral service and visitation for Melissa “Isse” Waddey, former President of LifePoint Health and my dear friend, was held in Nashville. My best estimate is that between 1,200 - 1,500 people were in attendance to pay their respects. As I listened to story after story about how she affected people in a variety of ways, consistent themes emerged.
A very large group of people who I’ve interacted with over the years had heard of Melissa. When her name would come up in conversation with this group, there were always questions around how she was “skyrocketing” through her career or statements of respect from seeing her speak on various topics. “What is her secret?” was a common follow up question.

See Better Results with A Year-Round Planning Process
By Jason Moore
Hospitals have traditionally created an annual strategic plan as a roadmap for achieving growth goals. While still an important step in the growth process, it's becoming clear that a stand alone annual plan won't cut it in today's healthcare world.
This annual routine has been driven by annual data reporting—a factor that is changing due to increased adoption of the frequently updated all-payer claims data (APCD). Stratasan’s APCD updates monthly, for example, allowing for more frequent market reporting that can lead to plan adjustments.
There is also reason to believe that plans are more widely adopted when more members of the organization are invested in the process. This can be a difficult change in mindset for organizations accustomed to planning that takes place only at the c-suite level.
How can hospitals shift to take advantage of more readily available data insights and make changes that will ensure greater adoption? The answer is an iterative planning process that invites organization-wide input and applies data-backed market insights.

The Secrets of the DIKW Pyramid
By Jason Moore
Have you heard of the DIKW pyramid? If not, you’re not alone. But if you’re up for a refreshing shift in perspective on how to make data-driven decisions, then read on.
Within the healthcare landscape, change is constant. As a result, growth departments — whether they be strategic planning, marketing, business development, or physician relations — must make informed, data-driven decisions that can keep pace with the rate of change. Stratasan views the DIKW pyramid as the best and most philosophically accurate way for leaders to make these decisions.

A Behind the Curtain Look into Stratasan’s Planning Process
By Jason Moore
As we near the end of 2018, goal setting and annual planning are top of mind for all of us. Strategic planning is a useful process for organizations of all shapes and sizes and a well-defined strategic plan is key for companies that want to thrive, grow, and remain competitive. In this post, I want to give you a peek behind the curtain into our process to help you better understand how we think about and plan for the future of our business.
Stratasan’s co-founder and CTO, Brian Dailey, introduced Good Strategy/Bad Strategy: The Difference and Why it Matters by Richard Rumelt to our executive leadership team (ELT)* in late 2017. After reading and discussing it as a group, we decided to implement this methodology to our strategic planning process. Starting this process so late in the year though meant our 2018 strategy was not completed until the year had already begun. This limited how effective our 2018 planning could be, but we still recognized that we’d landed on a good process. This year, we were motivated to start earlier and are already seeing positive synergy around our 2019 strategies as a result.

Recently, I had the pleasure of being interviewed on the topic of how collaboration between technology companies and larger, more established healthcare provider companies (e.g. hospital system, ambulatory surgery company, etc.) propels product innovation.
During this conversation, two prevailing thoughts kept occurring. First, Stratasan has been extremely fortunate with a partner base of clients who have approached the collaboration process with an open mind and generosity to share their expertise and experiences. Second, our core value of “Our Success Is My Success” extends further outside of our walls than I believe we intended when we first adopted it.

A HealthRedesigned Podcast
By Jason Moore
The rapid progression of healthcare means it’s more important than ever for hospitals to understand how they should evolve. The need for the right data to make the best strategic decisions possible has become a critical component to growth.
Through our applications and our services, Stratasan makes it easier for hospitals and healthcare systems to turn their data into intelligence and make data-based decisions that’ll help them grow strategically and stay competitive.
I recently chatted with Jon Lay, Founder at Hanno, and discussed these ideas, which were recorded in this podcast conversation.

2017 has been a banner year for Stratasan on many fronts. We are approaching our seven year anniversary on May 18 and our team continues to adapt and evolve as we prepare for our next stages of growth.
Some of the notable internal occurrences from this past year include: two employees (Jason Haley, Tony Camarata) celebrated their six year Strataversary; three employees (Dan Foreman, Lee Ann Lambdin, Morgan Atkins) celebrated their five year Strataversary; one new product was released (Launch Pathway); four children were born and/or adopted; we moved into a new office on April 1; we held a crock pot competition (Scott Burns was named the champion); we had zero unscheduled downtime (thanks to Marcus Young and our fantastic Dev team!!); and ten new Stratanauts joined our team.
