The ABC’s of Medicare (and D)

The ABC’s of Medicare (and D)

Anytime the Stratasan team is asked the same question twice in one week, it tells us that our audience is probably thinking about this subject, which gives us a great opportunity to dive a little deeper. Recently, the theme that developed was the ABC's of Medicare (and D). So this week, the subject is Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D.

-Medicare A covers Hospitalizations, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Nursing Homes, Hospice, and Home Health

-Medicare Part B covers Medically Necessary Services used to treat or diagnosis an illness (Includes things such as Clinical Research, Ambulance Services, DME (Durable Medical Equipment), Mental Health, Second Opinions before Surgery, and Outpatient Drugs) or to prevent an illness.

-Medicare Part C covers Medicare Advantage.  These are Medicare plans administered by private companies including Health Maintenance Organizations, Preferred Provider Organizations, Private Fee-for-Service Plans, Special Needs Plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans.

-Medicare Part D covers prescription drugs.  This is the portion of Medicare that pays for prescription drugs both in facility and through drug stores like Walgreens, CVS, Costco, Sam's and others.

At Stratasan, we work extensively with these files to help our clients understand the unique medical needs of seniors and to help forecast health service demand. For more information, contact us at
