Know Your Customer Like Never Before, Part 6: The Remaining Potpourri of Tapestry LifeModes

Posted by Jason Haley on Jun 27, 2017 8:59:00 AM

By Jason Haley

For the sixth, and final, installment of our tapestry series, we’ll be covering Tapestry Segments in three differing LifeModes. (You can read the first, second, thirdfourth, and fifth posts here.)

Since this last post is covering three LifeModes that are unrelated, it will be structured a little differently than the first five posts in this series. We’ll cover a large swath of Urbanization Groups, then specifically dive into each of the three LifeModes separately. Each of the LifeModes will utilize healthcare differently than the next, so we’ll look at each section individually, rather than wholistically, like we have in the past.

It has been a lot of fun covering Tapestry Segmentation throughout this blog series and our hope is that you not only know more than you did when we started, but also how you can utilize Psychographic data to your advantage within your markets and patient populations! If you have any questions about Tapestry Segmentation that these posts have not answered, you are more than welcome to reach out to me directly at jhaley@stratasan.com.

Before we dive into the last post, here’s a quick Tapestry refresher: Tapestry Segmentation was designed specifically for understanding your customer’s lifestyle choices —what they buy and how they spend their free time. This information gives Stratasan, and you, our clients, insights that help identify a facility’s patient types, optimal sites for hospitals, physician offices, FSERS, and urgent care locations. We use the Tapestry Segmentation dataset to help our clients get higher response rates, focus on the most profitable growth opportunities, and invest their resources in the best ways possible.

Overcoming Consolidation Challenges for Healthcare Marketing and Strategic Planning

Posted by Lee Ann Lambdin on Jun 6, 2017 8:15:00 AM

Maintain a Growth Mindset in the Face of Tightening Margins and Shrinking Departments

By Lee Ann Lambdin

As healthcare margins continue to tighten and consolidation remains a reality for many small hospitals, numerous marketing professionals are feeling the need to validate their impact by developing marketing strategies based on reliable, data-based intelligence. The pressure is on to stretch marketing dollars as far as possible, and it’s important for marketing outreach to be focused and data-based

Marketers and strategic planners alike are facing a new reality that requires them to do more with less. Many who have marketing in their title are also responsible for planning and strategy as well, and it’s apparent that this phenomenon is due to one of two things:

  • Either there was never a planning position or strategy has increasingly become a more important function for the hospital or health system so this job was given to the department that made the most sense: marketing.
  • Or, the planning position was eliminated over time and the function was consolidated with the marketing function.

Takeaways from the Healthcare Marketing and Physician Strategies Summit

Why Physician Relations is all about Managing Leakage and Keepage

By Jackie DeGroat

This past week, several members of our team attended the 2017 Healthcare Marketing & Physician Strategies Summit in Austin, TX. The Summit is the leading conference for senior-level marketing, strategy, physician relations, sales, and business development executives from hospitals, health systems, academic medical centers, integrated networks, and medical groups.

Attending as sponsors, our group found the experience to be a rewarding mix of networking with peers and gleaning best practices from specialists in various arenas of the healthcare industry. My greatest takeaways came from discussions on physician relations and strategy and below you will find an overview of what I found to be most helpful.

Know Your Customer Like Never Before, Part 5: Diversity in the City

Posted by Jason Haley on May 2, 2017 3:57:35 PM

By Jason Haley

For the fifth installment of our tapestry series, we’ll be covering Tapestry Segments in the City.

(Note: you can read the first, second, thirdfourth, and sixth posts here.)

This post (as well as the previous post) specifically highlights Tapestry Segments in LifeModes in America’s urban core. This post includes urban LifeModes predominantly made up of Ethnic Enclaves and Next Wave populations. Households in these Segments are made up of young, mobile, and diverse populations living in the most densely populated neighborhoods of the largest cities. As these populations get older and start families, they begin to move to neighborhoods that flank major cities as well as affluent suburbs. They will also begin to utilize health care more and more. By targeting these LifeModes, a healthcare organization can hone in on areas where the growth of healthcare needs can be expected in the future and plan accordingly.

Before we dive into the rest of this post, here’s a quick Tapestry refresher: Tapestry Segmentation was designed specifically for understanding your customer’s lifestyle choices —what they buy and how they spend their free time. This information gives Stratasan, and our clients, insights that help identify a facility’s patient types, optimal sites for hospitals, physician offices, FSERS, and urgent care locations. Know Your Customer Like Never Before, Part 4: Life in the City

For the fourth installment of our tapestry series, we’ll be covering Tapestry Segments in the City.

(Note: you can read the first, secondthird, fifth, and sixth posts here.)

This post (as well as the next) will specifically highlight Tapestry Segments in LifeModes in America’s urban core. Since there are so many urban segments, we’ll be covering them over two posts. This first post will include urban LifeModes predominantly made up of white and black populations. Households in these Segments are made up of people ages 28-47 years old. As these populations age into their 30s and 40s, they will begin to utilize health care more and more. By targeting these LifeModes, a healthcare organization can hone in on areas where the growth of healthcare needs can be expected in the future and plan accordingly.

Launch Pathway vs. Tableau

Posted by Tony Camarata on Mar 28, 2017 3:45:21 PM

Why Each Platform was Created and the Unique Needs and Goals of Each User

By Tony Camarata, Scott Burns, and Forrest Rich

As we approached the official release date of Launch Pathwaywe found it helpful to consider other platforms on the market that provide a similar set of offerings. We analyzed and researched our customer’s needs and the options previously available to them so we have a more complete understanding of how Launch Pathway will be useful and relevant to our customers. Based on our market research, these are the three primary options available to healthcare marketers and strategists looking to apply data intelligence to strategic growth planning:

  • An in-house DIY approach
  • Tableau
  • Launch Pathway

We won’t cover the details of an in-house DIY approach in this post, but we’ll instead focus on the differences between Tableau and Launch Pathway. Launch Pathway is strategic intelligence platform that transforms complex healthcare market data into straightforward insights. It removes the roadblocks of data crunching for healthcare marketing and strategic planning professionals, allowing users to more quickly progress to the high-value work of growth strategy and planning. Tableau was created to help anyone see and understand their data, whatever that data might be. It connects to almost any database, allowing for the creation of drag and drop to visualizations.

We know both Tableau and Launch Pathway have a lot of great capabilities, so we’re not interested in detailing out every good and bad aspect of each platform. But, we do see value in highlighting the strategy behind why each was created, who the users are of each, and what these users are trying to accomplish.

Your Market Share is Increasing - So What?

Why It’s Critical to Analyze Multiple Market Factors For True Growth Insight

By Ashley Graham

Imagine this scenario: You’re a strategic planner for a healthcare organization, and you discover that your facility has gained market share in your service area. Excited, you put the trended market share into a colorful graph and show it to your executive team.

“Great! So what?

On the surface, this may seem like an odd question. Increased market share is desirable, right?

Well, probably, but by asking ourselves “so what,” we can see that more than just trended market share is needed to provide true strategic value.

Healthcare Analysts are in Short Supply: How to Overcome the Challenge

Posted by Lee Ann Lambdin on Feb 14, 2017 1:33:49 PM
by Lee Ann Lambdin

I hired a great analyst a few years ago. She was skilled with database programs, understood the complexities of the healthcare market, and had previously been a medical records coderin short, she was very talented. The longer she was in her position, the more our state data was reported accurately and on a reliable schedule. It was a huge win for me and my team!

Recognizing her capabilities, I asked if she could start running "quarterly standard reports" that present key findings which could influence how our planning, marketing, and business development departments would function and what we would focus on in the weeks and months to come. These quarterly updates would be high-level summaries of our market landscape and would cover everything from our hospital’s market share, trended volume, competitor positions, product lines, payor mix, patient migration patterns and more.

Avoid These 4 Pitfalls When Choosing a Healthcare Strategic Growth Partner

Posted by Taylor Smith on Dec 6, 2016 2:10:37 PM

As you are planning for the start of a new year, it may be time to consider bringing on an outside partner or switching to a new one, to help facilitate your 2017 strategic growth plans. As you consider options for a strategic growth partner, there are a variety of factors to consider.

Should you go with a software platform? A consulting firm or services team? Should you keep things simple and go with the partner who could do a little bit of everything, but may not specialize in any one area? Should you hire the company with the fancy website? Or perhaps you could choose a provider that offers just the niche you need.

Ultimately, your best choice depends on your system’s unique needs; but if you find yourself noticing any of the following things as you walk through the evaluation process with a new partner, take note, as it could be a warning sign for a less-than-stellar partnership down the line. Any one of these issues could lead to costly consequences and pitfalls that may not seem important early on but can cause big problems for your health system as the relationship progresses.
